Vicenza Program
Program Instructor: Charlie Menefee, University of Virginia
I was part of a group of 20 students studying architecture through drawing across the Veneto Region of Italy. The class culminated in the production of a hand-bound book (see bookbinding page). ‘Slots of space’ were my focus of study during the 5 week class. These seemingly ubiquitous slots are created by the layering of building over time. As a type, they are characterized by the unique sculpting of space by multiple users and authors from the early Renaissance to today. In general, the summer program focused on cultivating quick hand representation abilities as well as drawing composition.
